UTMB WORLD SERIES ANNOUNCES A NEW EVENT IN ITALY: PUGLIA BY UTMB
On the heels of a historic edition of the Chianti Ultra Trail by UTMB®, the UTMB® World Series strengthens its presence in Italy with the launch of a fourth event in the south of the country: Puglia by UTMB®. Located in the dramatic canyon landscapes of Italy’s Puglia, this new addition promises unique and challenging terrain in one of the world’s most breath-taking locations.
Another opportunity to live the UTMB experience in a dynamic trail-running region. The integration of Puglia by UTMB into the UTMB World Series is part of a strong dynamic in the Italian market, now ranked 6th worldwide for trail running, with 40,000 runners with a valid UTMB Index (7,625 Italians ran a UTMB World Series in 2024). The incredible success of the Chianti Ultra Trail by UTMB (March 21-23, 2025) – bringing together 5,000 participants from 85 nations and featuring a showdown between the world’s best athletes – has once again confirmed the exceptional enthusiasm of Italian runners for trail events rooted in their territory.
Only 9% of Italian runners having competed outside their own country by 2023. Puglia by UTMB represents an additional opportunity for local athletes to experience the UTMB World Series at home, as well as the chance to collect Running Stones, which give access to the UTMB World Series finals held each year in the Mont Blanc region.
Florian Lamblin, Executive Director for UTMB International said, “Puglia offers all the ingredients for an authentic and memorable trail-running event. Its mild climate, unspoilt villages steeped in history, unique trails, and renowned gastronomy make it an ideal destination. Together with our local team, we are excited to reveal Puglia’s great sporting potential and offer Italian and European runners an accessible race with the possibility to live UTMB experience closer to home.”
